2013 Canadian Grand Prix Preview

Its Round 7 out of 19 and this weekend the teams land in North America for their first out of two American adventures. This time on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada. This 4.3 Km, 13 turn circuit with long straights and twisty turns houses hosted the longest Grand Prix back in 2011 which was amazing to watch! One more special thing about this circuit is the Wall of Champions on the exit of the final chicane which has caught out many drivers and will again do this weekend.

The track is amazing with high speed straights and slow corners. The walls are quite close and there isn't a lot of run off area for the drivers. Rain is expected for the opening two days so this could affect their preparation. With tires and weather affecting the race drivers will need to find the best strategy in their hunt from Montreal Glory!

So coming to this weekend's race there is more talk of what's going to happen about the "Mercedes-Pirelli Tyre Gate" rather than the race itself. On Wednesday the FIA announced that the International Tribunal is going to handle this and that Mercedes and Pirelli have to give clarifications regarding the private test conducted after the Spanish Grand Prix.

Mercedes came out with a statement later saying "We welcome the opportunity to explain the full facts of the Pirelli test in an open and transparent manner at the International Tribunal".

Meanwhile Pirelli's decision to introduce new tries at this weekend's race has been altered and now the drivers will get to test the new medium compound tires only for free practice on Friday and they will be using the supersoft and medium for the rest of the race weekend. The new updated tires will be used for the British Grand Prix at the end of the month.

Coming to the on track action, This weekend again Mercedes will be strong along with Red Bull. It remains to be seen how much Lotus and Ferrari can improve from the last race. Lewis Hamilton will be looking to claim his fourth victory at this track while Red Bull, who surprisingly haven't won this race before, will be looking to claim their maiden victory here!

Drivers will of course be thinking a lot about tyre wear at this circuit and the one who can manage them the best will eventually come out on top. Lotus and especially Raikkonen are good at getting the most out of these tires during races so we can expect them to do one less pit-stop compared to others unless there is some drama!

Massa and Maldonado who suffered the worst crashes at the Monaco Grand Prix will have new chassis this weekend due to the extensive damage that their cars suffered!

Special mention to the Sahara Force India team who are going to be competing in their 100th Grand Prix under that name! Great work by the team to start of at the back and quickly move upwards and challenging the front runners. A podium is getting closer every weekend and for sure by the end of the season they will have new silverware in their factory!

Kimi Raikkonen is on the hunt for Schumacher's record for the most number of consecutive finishes within the points. If Kimi finishes in the points this weekend he will equal the record tally of 24! Quite an amazing feat.

The race will be run over 70 laps with two DRS zones on the two longest straights and one detection point right after turn 9. If previous years are anything to go by we are in for a treat this weekend! Stay tuned and Enjoy the race!
